I knew what a good trade looked like. I knew what a rule break looked like. I'd seen both a thousand times. And I still did it. Not once — repeatedly. For years. The most common one: closing a trade early. Not because the setup was wrong. Because price was approaching my stop and I told myself I'd rather close it myself than let the market take me out. Saving myself some money. I'll get back in on the next move.

Nine out of ten times — nine out of ten — the trade worked out exactly as I had planned it. The stop never got hit. The target got reached. The setup was right all along. And I wasn't in it, because I had taken myself out while it was working. Not because the entry was wrong. Not because the setup failed. Because my emotions got the better of me. The what-ifs took over. What if it reverses? What if I lose more? You cannot fight your emotions into submission — you have to learn to work with them, to bring them under control. And every time I thought I was protecting myself, I was costing myself. The trade I abandoned. The profit I walked away from. And then the next setup I missed too, because I was so deep inside my own head, fighting with myself, that I couldn't see the next opportunity sitting right in front of me.

One bad decision. Three losses. The last time it happened at that scale, I lost everything. It took me years to recover. And during those years, my wife kept telling me the same thing: "It's not your trading. It's not your setup. It's what's going on in your mind." I heard her. I just couldn't accept it — because when something goes that wrong, the first instinct is to change your strategy. Maybe the setup is wrong. Maybe I need a different system. Maybe I need a better course. That's what the entire industry is built on — the idea that what you're missing is knowledge. A better entry. A sharper indicator. But I had been proving the opposite for years. Nine out of ten times I broke my rules, it was never the entry. It was never the setup. It was always what happened after the entry. Never before it.
